Janet D is stone crazy about rocks, gems and jewelry!

She first started selling other artisans’ work in a small booklet (1999)  she developed/printed on her home computer……  Then in 2001 she realized she could make and design her own original pieces of affordable jewelry with her favorite mediums: Gem Stones and Fresh Water Pearls

She studied Geology and Oceanography in college…..but did not meet the math…..so she shares her love of nature, the environment and geology with the public in both her stone jewelry sales and volunteer work she does at events  around the Big Island of Hawaii. Her husband is an amatuer astronomer and they volunteer their time on Mauna Kea (9000 Ft Visitor Center) each month as well as Astronomy Outeach in the community. They have also been known to volunteer their camera knowledge at the Kalapana Lava hike & Volcano Caldera……the tourist need a helping hand when it comes to turning off their flash units -  when taking night pictures.  

Currently, her designs can be seen at the HPP Swap Meet in Keaau and astronomy outreach events in the community.  You may have seen her as “meteor mama” or the lady with the “dino dung” on her educational table.  Her educational table includes: 3.5 lb Meteorite from China, 4 lb Dino Dung, Dinosaur Vertebrae and Skin and other interesting geologic items you don’t see in Hawaii.  She loves to share her love of science with children whenever she can!  If you are a teacher in the community, contact her and she will be happy to schedule a special showing of her fossil table – FREE and just for fun.
