Hawaii ICE
2009 started out with some cold weather – the result…. snowdays on Mauna Kea on the Big Island of Hawaii at 14,000 ft. Yes, Snowboarding and Ski Heaven for those who live in Hawaii.
Fun at the top of the world – Hawaiian Style – just a beautiful rare whiteout for islanders to enjoy
The Onizuka Astronomy Visitor Center at 9000 Ft elevation. You have to rest for at least 30 minutes or you can risk being sick or having a bad accident from lack of oxygen. We stay at the visitor center for at least 45 minutes to an hour to be sure we have adjusted to the altitude. *Take it from someone who experienced hypoxia – only once - in many adventures on the mountain – it can happen.*
